About the service
The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department provides a broad and comprehensive range of general ENT services and a number of specialist services.
The Audiology Department provides Audiometric Support to Ear, Nose and Throat Clinics.
ENT Clinics:
A number of ENT clinics are provided including:
- Acute emergency clinic
- Adult general ENT clinic
- Allergy clinic
- Audiology
- Aural care clinic
- Head and neck lump and salivary gland clinic
- Joint cancer clinics
- One stop balance clinic
- Paediatric clinics
- Pre-op clinic
- Rapid access clinic
- Voice clinic
- Sleep studies
- ENT Emergencies and Referrals
Emergencies:
Monday to Friday 9am-5pm – there will be an ENT doctor on site and a consultation on call to cover ENT emergencies
Rapid Access Referrals:
You can make a rapid access referral for any of the following:
- Acute trauma to the nose
- Moderate epistaxis of sudden onset (Usually does not require packing or hospitalisation)
- Acute tonsillitis ( need second opinion and does not need hospitalisation)
- Acute otitis external/ otitis media/ mastoiditis
- Cellulitis/ erysipelas of face and neck
- Foreign body in the nose
- Acute trauma to the eardrum or pin
- Sudden onset sensorineural hearing loss/ tinnitus (within 6 weeks)
- Acute facial palsy
A&E Referrals:
Referrals for the below conditions should be made directly to the Accident and Emergency Department (AED):
- Severe facial trauma
- Severe epistaxis
- Severe tonsillitis/ quinsy (Needing hospitalisation)
- Complications of sinusitis ( intra cranial complications, periorbital cellulitis)
- Stridor
- Severe dizziness
- Total dysphagia
- Foreign body in throat (such as fishbone) or sudden unilateral hearing loss
- Sudden unilateral hearing loss
All other times – if patients need to be seen by an ENT doctor they should be referred to AED:
