Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is committed to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion. The Trust, as a public authority, is subject to the Public Sector equality duty (PSED). The PSED is comprised of two elements, the general duties and the specific duties. One of the specific duties is the requirement to publish Equality Information.

LGBTI+ Experiences In Healthcare
Do you want to help improve LGBTI+ experiences of healthcare?
The National LGBTI+ Sounding Board and wider LGBTI+ Experience Network will enable NHS England and NHS Improvement to work with LGBTI+ communities at a national level, to allow the organisation to hear from a range of voices, including people facing the greatest barriers or who are less often listened to, such as disabled LGBTI+ people and LGBTI+ people of colour (PoC). This will allow people to have more influence in health service design and delivery. This project is being delivered as part of the NHS Rainbow Badge programme, a cross-organisational partnership between LGBT Foundation, GLAAD, Switchboard, Stonewall and Consortium.
The National LGBTI+ Sounding Board will meet monthly (virtually), to discuss issues specifically relating to LGBTI+ people, as well as wider areas of health and care affecting everyone.
Communication Support for Patients with a Disability
The Accessible Information Standard says that all providers of adult social care and health services must provide additional communication support for patients with disabilities, their parents and/or carers.
We need you to tell us if you need additional communication support relating to a disability so that we can highlight your additional needs on your patient record to enable us to provide you with the support you need when you are using one or more of our services.
You can do this by completing our Communication Support Webform and telling us what support you need.
Supporting patients as a Veteran Aware Trust
We are proud to be a Veteran Aware Trust, this means that we have been accredited from the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), to acknowledge our commitment to a number of key pledges including:
- Training relevant staff on veteran specific culture or needs
- Ensuring that the armed forces community is never disadvantaged compared to other patients, in line with the NHS’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant
- Providing information to ensure that veterans, reservist and service families are aware of appropriate charities or NHS services beneficial to them for example mental health services or support with finanacial and/or benefit claims
- Supporting the armed forces as an employer
