Formerly St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Violence and aggression against our staff

Staff at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are committed to providing the highest quality care to our patients. This includes keeping our staff safe so they can continue to care for you.

We understand that our patients can be scared and frightened about being unwell and in hospital, and that receiving treatment is often really worrying.

We do not under any circumstances however accept aggressive behaviour, or verbal or physical abuse towards our staff.

If you behave aggressively in our hospitals or our community settings, you may be asked to leave in order to ensure the safety of our staff and other patients and visitors.

Individuals who physically or verbally abuse our staff will be reported to Merseyside Police. The type of action that can be taken includes but is not limited to arrest/legal action being sought, exclusion notices banning perpetrators from our hospital(s), and civil orders.

The Trust does not take these measures lightly, but the wellbeing of our staff and other patients/visitors will always be our main priority.

If you wish to make a complaint about your care or a member of staff, you should contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS).
