This practice is provided by Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Our aim is to make sure our patients are well informed and cared for to the highest possible standard.
We work as a multidisciplinary team; the core of our highly skilled team being our Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) and General Practitioners (GP) who are supported within the practice by Nurses, Patient Care Advisors (PCA), Senior PCAs, Deputy Practice Manager and our Practice Manager.
We also work closely with colleagues outside the practice such as Pharmacists, District Nurses, Community Matrons and Social Services.
The practice will occasionally offer training places for GPs and other health care providers and we will continue to include our patients in research, audit and the Friends and Family Test (FFT). This means you may on occasion be asked to complete questionnaires, if you choose not to participate this will not prejudice your care in any way.
Parking is free for patients attending the surgery for an appointment. Car Park tickets are validated at reception.

The doors to the surgery open at 08:00am, patients will no longer be able to access the surgery before 08:00am.
When the practice is closed the phone automatically diverts to St Helens Rota Out-of-Hours Emergency Service.
- About the Team
The Practice Manager Louise Derricott and Primary Care Business Manager Katie Etheridge are involved in managing all aspects of the business such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment as well as information technology. These managers also support the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and will also help to develop extended services to enhance patient care.
Our Patient Care Advisors provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services as well as results and can direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Patient Care Advisors make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and the Practice Nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions, dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches as well as practice audits.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
An ANP is a registered nurse who is clinically trained to assess, diagnose and treat patients. They are highly skilled and have expertise in caring for patients with minor illnesses and conditions. They work closely with the doctors in general practice and can prescribe medications.

Practice nurses are qualified and registered nurses. They can help with health issues such as family planning, healthy living advice, blood pressure checks and dressings. The practice nurses run clinics for long-term health conditions such as asthma or diabetes, minor ailment clinics and carry out cervical smears.

Extended hours appointments are additional to our usual surgery appointments which are during normal opening hours. These appointments will be booked by our admin team either on the day or in advance. Patients will be seen for general medical help, advice or treatment as they would get from the surgeries clinical team and will be seen by the next available clinician.
These appointments all take place at Parkfield Surgery, Lowe House, 103 Crab Street, Saint Helens, WA10 2DJ.
Appointments for Marshalls Cross are:
Mondays – 7.15pm, 7.30pm and 8.00pm Fridays – 8.15pm, 8.30pm and 8.45pm.

- Improved Access
CCGs are required by NHS England to provide extended access to GP services, including at evenings and weekends, for their population.
On 1st October 2018, phase one of the Improving Access to General Practice service began introducing 7 day access to GP services in St Helens with pre-bookable appointments outside normal surgery hours.
On Monday 26th November 2018, phase 2 of the service began which increased the number of locations offering appointments outside of normal surgery hours to three, with the fourth location preparing to go live in January 2019.
This service increases residents’ access to routine GP and Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) appointments on evenings and weekends. Appointments are pre-bookable by your registered GP practice.
However, the appointments will not be with your regular GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner and will be at ‘hubs’ across St Helens with a GP or ANP who will have access to the same health records as your regular GP.

St Helens Urgent Treatment Centre
The Millennium Centre, Corporation Street, Saint Helens WA10 1HJ Opening times: Monday to Saturday 07.00am to 10.00pm and Sundays 09.00am to 10.00pm for:
- Minor cuts or wounds
- Sore throats
- Suspected simple fractures
- Bites or stings
- Rashes and allergic reactions
- Prescribed medication (subject to assessment)
- Minor burns or scalds
- Coughs and colds
- Muscle or joint injuries (eg. sprains and strains)
- Eye injuries and infections
- Emergency contraception
There is a dedicated X-ray unit on site.
Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
