The Rainbow Garden
We have officially opened a special memorial garden to remember loved ones at Whiston Hospital.
The Rainbow Garden funded by NHS Charities Together and thanks to the extraordinary efforts and generosity of Captain Sir Tom Moore will provide a place for contemplation and reflection for staff, patients, and their families.
Benches have been installed to remember staff members lost to Covid-19.
On opening the Rainbow Garden our Chief Executive, Ann Mar OBE, said “Sadeq Elhowsh, Joe Fairclough and Margaret Waine will forever be in our thoughts and prayers, and from today they will be remembered here in our new Rainbow Garden. I am honoured that members of their families are here to share this moment with us today. Many of our staff have also suffered personal loss or illness themselves but have consistently put their own fears aside to comfort and care for the needs of others. This bravery should never be taken for granted. The professionalism shown throughout this crisis has been truly remarkable."
The Garden was designed by Geoff Hunter, who worked at the Trust for 20 years and Dyan Clegg who talked him into coming out of retirement and designing the garden with her.
Project Director Cliff Morgan from Vinci Facilities, Gardener David Platt and all of the talented estates and facilities staff then brought Geoff and Dyan’s vision to life.
Our Official Opening
Whiston and St Helens Hospitals' Charity
Whiston and St Helen’s Hospital is a small charity with a big impact. That's because we keep things local and work very closely with our staff to understand how we can truly brighten the lives of patients in our hospitals. With your help we can continue to transform the hospitals that care for you and your loved ones.
You can get involved and raise very important pounds & pennies in lots of different ways to brighten the lives of our patients at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Every penny donated raises money for those extra items that NHS budgets can’t stretch to.
Please visit our Charity Website for more details on how to make a donation or raise funds.
