Maternity Triage

The Maternity Triage service is located within the delivery suite on level 2, purple floor. The service offers 24/7 telephone advice and/or care for women who have any concerns with regards to their pregnancy, from 13 weeks gestation onwards.

Our midwives may provide reassurance over the phone, direct you to other services for support or invite you to attend the maternity triage for review. Please ensure you telephone the maternity triage midwife before attending so we can provide you with appropriate advice and if necessary prepare for your attendance.

If the midwife invites you to attend maternity triage, please ensure that you bring your hand held maternity notes along with you.

Please note that we operate a triage system similar to that used in A&E. We aim to conduct an initial assessment on women within 15 minutes of their arrival, and then you may then return to the waiting room if deemed appropriate. Women will be seen in order of clinical priority, therefore someone who arrives after you may be seen first. This is to ensure the prioritisation of emergencies and maintain safe care for mums and their babies.

Women who are less than 13 weeks gestation who have any concerns with regards to bleeding should contact the Buchanan Suite on 0151 430 1737. Opening hours for Buchanan Suite are as follows:  Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9.00am to 12.00pm and 1.30pm to 4.30pm. Tuesday and Thursday 9.00am to 12.30pm, Saturday 9.00am to 12.00pm and Closed on Sunday.

Women, who are less than 13 weeks gestation, who have other concerns should contact their GP or NHS 111 for advice.
