Our Services A - Z - Uro-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team
About the service
We are a team of experienced specialist urology nurses who work with patients, their families, carers and the wider urology and oncology teams throughout the cancer journey to ensure a streamlined pathway and the highest standards of care for our patients. In some cases we will meet the patients during their investigations into suspected cancer or it may be that we meet them at the time of diagnosis or treatment. We care for patients who have prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and penile cancer and we have additional training and skills to care for these patients.
We support patients through all aspects of their pathway by providing information and being a point of contact for the patient and their family allowing us to provide both physical and psychological support and refer onto other professionals as appropriate. We also co-ordinate appointments, investigations and referrals onto other Trusts. Any patient diagnosed with a urological cancer should have a named cancer nurse specialist who they can contact with any questions they may have.
We are supported in our role by a Urology Cancer Support Worker who also oversees the Supported self-management Programme in which patients are followed up remotely eliminating the need for hospital appointments unless they are necessary.
We also run a number of Nurse led clinics where we follow up patients with prostate and kidney cancer. We also have treatment clinics which include the administration of bladder instillations for urology cancer patients
