Our Wards - Whiston Hospital - Ward 3A - Regional Plastic Surgery Unit
Overview
Ward 3A is a plastic surgery ward, based at Whiston Hospital. It is part of the Mersey Regional Burns, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Centre which serves a population of approximately 5 million across Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales and Isle of Man. The ward has 12 day case beds and 20 overnight beds.

- Personal Belongings
Each patient has access to a bedside locker- this is not lockable. Please limit the amount of valuables being brought in to the ward.
- Meals and Drinks
Meal times 08:00 Breakfast
12:00 Lunchtime
17:00 Teatime
A hot drink is served with all the above meal times, as well as at 10:00, 14:00 and 21:30.
- Special Diets
If you are on a special diet or therapeutic diet, the ward staff will contact our hospital dietician to arrange this for you. The dietician will also be available Monday-Friday to provide specialist information regarding your diet.
- Discharge from the Ward
Medications
If you require medications to take home with you, these will be given to you by the ward staff before you leave. Please don't leave without them. It can take a few hours for the Hospital Pharmacy to prepare your medications, so bear this in mind when you arrange a time to leave.
Outpatient appointments
For Plastic Surgery Dressing Clinic follow up - you will be advised to contact the ward the next working day after your discharge, your appointment will be verbalised over the phone to you.
For Consultant Outpatient follow up - this will be sent in the post, any issues please contact your Consultants secretary via the Trust switchboard on 0151 426 1600.
Transport
Please try to arrange your own transport home from the Hospital. Hospital transport is only available for patients who cannot as a result of their clinical condition use other forms of transport

Patient information leaflets specific to your surgery will be provided to you by the ward team as required.
- Spiritual Needs
Spiritual support is available within the Trust and is provided by the Trust’s Spiritual Care Department. If you would like spiritual support during your admission, please speak to the nursing staff who will arrange this for you.
- Suggestions, comments or complaints
We aim to make your stay with us as pleasant and comfortable as possible, and strive to provide the highest quality of care. If you or your family have any suggestions or comments, please discuss them with the ward manager or nurse in charge, or you can discuss them (or any complaints) with the Patient Advice and Liaison Service.
