About the service

The Movement Disorder Service for Older People provides people, over the age of 65, within the St Helens and Knowsley area with access to healthcare professionals with a specialist interest in Parkinson's Disease, Parkinson's Syndromes and Essential tremor.

Our service comprises of two consultant geriatricians, Dr Sarah Williams and Dr Ryan Mason, and a specialist movement disorder practitioner, Claire Andrew.

We provide multiple modalities to access appointments including face to face clinics at St Helens Hospital, telephone reviews, telemedicine and in-patient review. The aim is to provide quality long term care to suit individual patient needs.

Our service provides access to adjunct speciality services including Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Speech and Language and have links with local Psychiatry providers. A specialist Parkinson's exercise group is available for our patients at the Allen Day Unit in St Helens Hospital and established links with colleagues at Walton neurological hospital allow referral for consideration of advanced therapies including Apomorphine, Deep Brain Stimulation and Duodopa.

Referrals can be made by GPs/ other specialities via the patient booking service (PBS) or as an in-patient via the PDService inbox.
