Our Services A - Z - Bevan Court 2
About the service
Bevan 2 is a 30 bedded ward that delivers care and rehabilitation to patients who are medically optimised but require additional support, treatment or complex discharge planning.
Patients who access Bevan 2 are mainly transferred from the acute inpatient wards or directly from the Acute Ambulatory Assessment Unit based on Bevan 1.
Patients on Bevan 2 are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of Nurses, Doctors, Therapists, Social Workers, pharmacy and volunteers as part of the Trust’s Frailty service. The overall aim of the unit is to provide care, support and planning in preparation for hospital discharge, wherever that maybe. The focus of the ward is reablement, ensuring that deconditioning is avoided and the transition from the acute hospital setting to the community is as smooth as possible.
- The Team
Medical Team – Bevan 2 has a dedicated Consultant Geriatrician who undertakes three ward rounds each week. The Frailty service is supported by Clinical Fellows and Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) who specialise in Frailty and Geriatric Medicine and support the multidisciplinary team in the daily clinical decision making.
The Nursing team – The nursing team is led by the Matron and Ward Manager who ensures delivery of a high standard of care for patients and support for staff.
Bevan 2 has a dedicated Discharge Co-ordinator who will liaise with the multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and health and social care community colleagues to support our patient’s safe discharge.
Therapists (Occupational and Physiotherapists) – Our Therapy team provide a holistic and comprehensive review of all appropriate patients to maintain and improve the patient’s abilities. Our team provides rehabilitation to support the patients discharge back into the community.
Pharmacy – Pharmacists have a key role in optimising medicines for elderly patients, in order to maximise the benefit and minimize harm. This is undertaken in conjunction with the patient and multidisciplinary team.

On the ward, we have a ‘Forget me not’ plan which we encourage family to complete.
- Medications
We encourage patients to bring in their own medication from home, so it is readily available and there are no delays with administration of critical medications.
- Personal Belongings
We encourage patients to be dressed where possible, in their own day and night wear; this attire should be comfortable, clean and appropriate for the ward.
Patients do also benefit from having their own toiletries and items which are familiar to them but were this is not possible we do have a supply of clothing and toiletries available.
We encourage patients to please not bring any unnecessary valuables or large sums of money onto the ward during their stay. There is a facility for safekeeping valuable items and cash at our General Office, but we encourage patients to send excess valuables, cash or any other surplus property home with their representatives.
The Trust will not accept responsibility or liability for patient’s property brought onto the Trust’s premises unless it is handed in for safekeeping and an official receipt is obtained or the property belongs to a patient who is unconscious, vulnerable, or confused and/or lacks the capacity to make a decision about the safekeeping of their property in which case relevant processes for this will be followed.
Please note that we do not allow any fresh flowers onto the ward due to infection control.
