Our Services A - Z - Pre-op Assessment Department
About the service
A Pre-op appointment is to ensure that patients are anaesthetically prepared for their operation.
We provide formal clinics for patients with complex health problems. These appointments are provided by Nurse Practitioners, with Band 5 Staff Nurse support.
We also provide health check clinics for patients who are deemed relatively fit and are reviewed by Nurse Assessors with Triage Practitioners support.
Within the team there is an anaesthetic clinic every afternoon which is Consultant Anaesthetist led.
We carry out testing for:
- MSSA
- MRSA
- Urinalysis
We perform our own ECG’s / Phlebotomy in-house, which ensures a one stop service.
Patients are either:
- deemed fit for surgery
- surgery delayed
- referred back to GP for further treatment
- referral to other specialty to optimise the patient pre-surgery
Pre-op are open 7 days per week, Monday to Sunday and work in to the evening, until 8.00pm, to ensure we can capture our patients who are at work during the daytime and cannot attend.
