Overview/Background:

I have been working as Consultant at St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust from May 2008 with a special interest in Lower Limb Surgery.

I have set up an acute knee injury clinic every Wednesday review and manage Acute knee injuries. These patients come to the clinic after undergoing a thorough triaging and having appropriate investigations. I perform a regular all day trauma list to manage lower limb trauma requiring specialist input. I take keen interest in dealing with most of the complex lower limb trauma in close collaboration with my colleagues.

My elective work mainly comprises lower limb problems and I accept referrals for hip, knee from both GPs and hospital colleagues

Along with physiotherapists and other affiliated teams I am in charge in updating the guidelines and information leaflets for patients undergoing arthroscopy and ACL reconstruction.

I provide support to the junior medical staff during on call and operating sessions. I understand the importance of regular ward rounds and hand-over’s to maintain continuity of clinical care.

I encourage F2 SHOs and GP trainees to attend my clinics to give them an overview of the lower limb examination and basic Orthopaedic examination. I organise regular tutorials for the senior ST`s sitting for the FRCS (Trauma & Ortho) examination.

I have been actively involved in audit projects in the department to facilitate reflective learning and improve local clinical care.

Actively involved in the modernisation of the unit which can enhance the profile and capability of the organisation for the benefit of patients and staff.
