Overview/Background:

Mr. Nikolaos Krassas is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at St. Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2018. He is the lead clinician for the treatment of macular degeneration (AMD) and manages other retinal pathologies. Mr Krassas has specific expertise in the diagnosis and management of ocular inflammatory conditions, which are frequently associated with other systemic autoimmune diseases.

Mr Krassas has completed fellowships in Medical Retina at Nottingham University Hospitals, Senior Medical Retina at Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Senior Uveitis at Manchester Eye University Hospital. In addition, he worked in the latter in a Consultant’s post for more than a year before becoming an integral member of the Rennie Eye Clinic at St. Helens Hospital. He completed his initial training in Greece before travelling to the UK to undertake sub-specialist training. He regularly audits his practice to ensure the highest standards of quality of care. He has been involved in several research projects as well as formal and informal teaching activities.
