Celebrating Healthcare Sciences

This week is Healthcare Science Week, seven days dedicated to recognising the amazing work of healthcare science professionals and the difference they make to patients' lives.

Specialists in science and technology, healthcare scientists are vital to modern patient care in helping to prevent, diagnose and treat a huge number of medical conditions, as well as supporting people to live independently through rehabilitation.

Even though they may not always see patients face to face, their work helps to change people’s lives for the better.

Where can I find Healthcare Scientists at STHK?

Healthcare scientists work in collaboration with wards and departments all over our hospitals and community settings.

The healthcare sciences can be split into the following categories:

  • Clinical Bioinformatics | This includes roles in genomics and health informatics
  • Life Sciences | This includes roles in pathology, genetics, and reproductive science
  • Physical sciences and biomedical engineering | You can find biomedical engineers working in specialist areas like radiology or optical imaging
  • Physiological sciences | This includes roles like audiology, cardiac sciences, clinical perfusion, critical care science, gastrointestinal physiology, neurophysiology, ophthalmic and vision science, respiratory physiology and sleep sciences, urodynamic science, and vascular science.

You can find out more about different healthcare science roles in more detail here: Healthcare science | Health Careers
